About The Rubber Room

Located in Chapel Hill, NC, The Rubber Room has specialized in recording, mixing, and mastering acoustic music since 1996. The studio was designed to combine state-of-the-art equipment while providing a relaxed, comfortable and creative environment for the musician. The layout features 17-foot ceilings in the control room and the central main room, along with three full-view isolation booths surrounding the main room. This flexible setup allows for an entire band to easily record together in the main room or to work together live in isolation while staying visually and aurally connected.  The studio’s equipment list is rivaled by few studios anywhere in the country, and provides a powerful combination of the very best of new and vintage gear. It features the current industry-standard computer editing system Pro tools TDM interfaced with a vintage Amek Angela console and equipment such as Neve, Amek, Neumann, AKG and Telefunken.

Since the studio's humble beginnings, we have had the opportunity to record some of the best musicians in the country and develop a reputation as one of the finest recording and mastering studios in the south. Here is a very incomplete list of some of the artists that we have worked with: Jack Lawrence, Doc Watson, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Bobby Hicks, Robin and Linda Williams, Lou Reed, Tony Williamson, Will MacFarlane (Bonnie Raitt), The Red Clay Ramblers, Rex McGee, Joe Newberry, The Grass Cats, The Steep Canyon Rangers, Sons of Ralph (Featuring Ralph Lewis), Mike Cross, Don Dixon, Stu Cole (Squirrel Nut Zippers), Alice Gerard, Robb Ladd (Don Henley), Robert Sledge (Ben Folds Five), Kicking Grass, Jonathan Byrd, Moondi Klein, Robbie Link, Tommy Edwards, Allen Jabor, Jim Watson, Taz Halloween, Mel Melton and the Wicked Mojos, Ally Light, Big Medicine.
